Blog Post #11: Bridge to Present

1.  I found many traits about the Sisters of Notre Dame interesting.  To begin, I admire their courage and determination.  When a school was being opened in Ohio in 1844, some sisters moved as well.  They did this knowing they would most likely not return home.  Also, I admire their perseverance and hard-working attitudes.  The sisters tried their hardest to maintain their presence in most of the schools that were built throughout the years.  The Sisters of Notre Dame live out the Hallmarks and are amazing role models to have because of their kindness, courage, and perseverance.     

2.  During the Alumnae Panel, the four women all mentioned the sisterhood that Notre Dame provides.  They still have some of the friendships they made while attending this school, which I find very impressive.  This stood out to me because most people I know don't keep very many friendships they had made when they were younger.  The community at Notre Dame allowed for strong bonds to be formed and more genuine friendships to grow.  All four of the women also had very little, if any, negative opinions about Notre Dame.  This definitely speaks highly about the school and the experience that the students have here.

3.  Being a part of the Notre Dame community is unique.  You instantly have a family through all of your classmates.  The staff and administrators are welcoming and encouraging.  The teachers all try and push us to be the very best students we can be.  Being a part of the community at our school means never being judged or discouraged.  Notre Dame is a safe environment for young girls to learn and grow to have a school-wide family.

4.  When I leave Notre Dame, some of the values I learned will have definitely stuck with me.  I will always remember to be kind and welcoming to others.  Also, I now know to never give up trying, even if all hope seems lost.  Notre Dame has taught me to continue persevering because great efforts makes great results.  I know I will leave Notre Dame remembering to treat others with respect, no matter what.  Notre Dame has implemented strong values in me that I know I will continue having after I graduate.

1. I learned many valuable lessons from my group's parable.  I learned that no matter what, God will always forgive us.  His love for us never changes, no matter how great our mistakes are.  I also learned that it is better that we forgive others because we would want them to forgive us.  We should always forgive someone for their wrongdoings just as God always forgives us.  One last thing that I learned is that parables teach us what is truly right in God's eyes, even if they might seem odd or wrong to us.   2.  Although I learned a lot from my own parable, I also learned new things from other groups' projects.  For example, in The Laborers in the Vineyard (Matthew 20:1-16), I learned that God treats all of His children the same, no matter what.  Our ideas of fairness differ from God's love for us individually.  However, it is important to know that He will always love us all the same, regardless of any differences between us...

Blog Post #8 - Suffering

1.  The 12 apostles went through much suffering for believing in and preaching about Jesus.  They suffered through threats and actions prohibiting them from spreading their news with others.  For example, Peter and a few other unnamed apostles were arrested from preaching at the temple.  In fact, the high priest was so jealous of the attention that the apostles were receiving, that he tried to have them killed.  Thankfully, he was convinced not to do so and later set them free.  Although the apostles were most likely afraid for their lives during these situations, they never lost hope.  They reacted by continuing to pray to God and were granted His strength and protection. 2.  The story I found most inspiring was Acts 14:8-20,  In Lystra and Derbe .  Paul and Barnabas had healed a crippled man because of this miracle, people began praising them as gods.  Paul was given the name Hermes, and Barnabas was called Zeus.  The two a...

Blog Post #12: Church in the Present

1.  "What Makes Us Catholic?"by Thomas Groome talks about Catholicism in a less conservative way.  The main points of the book are respecting yourself, others and other religions.  Also, the book focuses on catholicity and spirituality in everyone.  Many people say they are spiritual but not religious, however, no one can truly be spiritual without religion as a solid foundation.  Similarly, religion without spirituality cannot truly connect to the religious citizens of the world.  I agree with these main points because revolve around how to make the Catholic church seem more welcoming to more people.  2.  I learned much more about Pope Francis from the video clips we watched in class.  The topic that surprised me the most was the fact that he was not always liked by everyone.  When he stood firm in the church's beliefs about same-sex marriage, certain people began to criticize him.  Although he was still welcoming of homosexual...
