Blog Post #9: Resilience

1.  I could possibly see myself sharing the same messages my Letter Writer shared.  I agree with the messages Saint Peter preached about being proud to be a Christian and never feeling insulted for suffering in the name of Christ.  Since Jesus died and suffered for us as a human, we must do our part and devote our lives to following Him and worshiping Him.  Also, it is crucial to know that if you suffer in the name of God, you are blessed.  I would spread these messages by posting about them on social media.  I would do this because it would be a quick and effective way to preach to others.

2.  I learned many new things about the Virgin Mary through the Marian apparition projects.  Specifically, in the story of Our Lady of Fatima, I learned that she appeared to three children and gave them visions over the period of a several months.  She shared with them three predictions that she had, known as the "Secrets of Fatima."  These visions included the end of WWI and the beginning of WW2, the rise and fall of Soviet communism and that a pope would die from gunfire.   I also learned about the story of Our Lady of Knock, where the Virgin Mary appeared and was bowing her head in prayer.  I found this very interesting and powerful because she still had such a great effect, even when she stayed silent.

3.  Within the Marian apparition I researched, Our Lady of Guadalupe, I saw resilience.  Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego and told him to go to the bishop and share her request to build a temple in the area she appeared in.  The bishop did not believe this and told Juan to come back only if he had proof that Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to him a second time.  While Juan Diego did lose some hope, he showed resilience when he went back to where Our Lady of Guadalupe first appeared to him.  He approached her with flowers and she rearranged them while telling him to give them to the bishop.  He showed resilience when he went back to the bishop a second time instead of giving up. 

4.  I definitely see myself as being resilient.  Whenever I face a challenge, I try my very best to overcome that obstacle.  No matter how long it takes, I usually seem to fix the problems I am faced with.  When I believe that I need help, I never hesitate to ask my friends or family for guidance.  I have learned to never give up, no matter what the circumstances are.  I am resilient because whenever something becomes too overbearing, I find a way to fight through it with the help of others.

1. I learned many valuable lessons from my group's parable.  I learned that no matter what, God will always forgive us.  His love for us never changes, no matter how great our mistakes are.  I also learned that it is better that we forgive others because we would want them to forgive us.  We should always forgive someone for their wrongdoings just as God always forgives us.  One last thing that I learned is that parables teach us what is truly right in God's eyes, even if they might seem odd or wrong to us.   2.  Although I learned a lot from my own parable, I also learned new things from other groups' projects.  For example, in The Laborers in the Vineyard (Matthew 20:1-16), I learned that God treats all of His children the same, no matter what.  Our ideas of fairness differ from God's love for us individually.  However, it is important to know that He will always love us all the same, regardless of any differences between us...

Blog Post #8 - Suffering

1.  The 12 apostles went through much suffering for believing in and preaching about Jesus.  They suffered through threats and actions prohibiting them from spreading their news with others.  For example, Peter and a few other unnamed apostles were arrested from preaching at the temple.  In fact, the high priest was so jealous of the attention that the apostles were receiving, that he tried to have them killed.  Thankfully, he was convinced not to do so and later set them free.  Although the apostles were most likely afraid for their lives during these situations, they never lost hope.  They reacted by continuing to pray to God and were granted His strength and protection. 2.  The story I found most inspiring was Acts 14:8-20,  In Lystra and Derbe .  Paul and Barnabas had healed a crippled man because of this miracle, people began praising them as gods.  Paul was given the name Hermes, and Barnabas was called Zeus.  The two a...

Blog Post #12: Church in the Present

1.  "What Makes Us Catholic?"by Thomas Groome talks about Catholicism in a less conservative way.  The main points of the book are respecting yourself, others and other religions.  Also, the book focuses on catholicity and spirituality in everyone.  Many people say they are spiritual but not religious, however, no one can truly be spiritual without religion as a solid foundation.  Similarly, religion without spirituality cannot truly connect to the religious citizens of the world.  I agree with these main points because revolve around how to make the Catholic church seem more welcoming to more people.  2.  I learned much more about Pope Francis from the video clips we watched in class.  The topic that surprised me the most was the fact that he was not always liked by everyone.  When he stood firm in the church's beliefs about same-sex marriage, certain people began to criticize him.  Although he was still welcoming of homosexual...
